Mira Solano

Product designer, Lisbon

I design the boring screens nobody screenshots.

Billing flows, admin panels, permission matrices, empty states. Twelve years of the interfaces that decide whether software is bearable to use every day.

Selected work

Four projects, one thread

Each of these started as a screen someone dreaded opening.

2025 — Fintech

Rebuilding a reconciliation queue

Operations staff were reconciling 400 transactions a day across three tools. We collapsed it into one view with keyboard-first triage, and watched median handling time fall from 90 seconds to 22.

  • Six weeks, embedded with the ops team
  • Shipped behind a flag, measured for a month
  • Handed over with a component spec, not a Figma file

Outcome

  • -76%Median handling time
  • 3 → 1Tools in the workflow

Outcome

  • 41%Fewer support tickets
  • 9Permission concepts, down from 27

2024 — Developer tools

Permissions people can explain

The old model had twenty-seven overlapping concepts and a support queue full of "why can't I see this?". We rewrote the mental model first and the interface second.

  • Card sorting with nineteen customers
  • A migration path that didn't break anyone's automation
  • Documentation written before the UI was built

How I work

Three habits, held stubbornly

  1. I sit with the people who use it

Not a workshop. A week of watching the actual job, in the actual tool, with the actual data.

  2. I write before I draw

If the concept can't be explained in a paragraph, no amount of layout will rescue it.

  3. I measure after launch

A design that shipped is a hypothesis. Two of my four case studies exist because the first version was wrong.

Mira is the only designer we've worked with who asked to see the support inbox on day one.

About

Twelve years, mostly indoors

I started in newspaper production, which is where I learned that a deadline is a design constraint like any other. Since 2014 I've worked in-house at two companies and independently with fourteen more, nearly all on internal tools and billing.

I work in six to ten week engagements, usually embedded with one team, and I hand over specifications rather than mockups.

Based in

Lisbon, working across European hours.

Speaks

Portuguese, English, passable Spanish.

Tools

Figma, but the deliverable is usually HTML.

Not for hire for

Logo design, pitch decks, growth funnels.

Booking from June.

Tell me what the screen is and who dreads opening it. That's usually enough to know if I can help.
